Filed under: Aston Villa, Premier League

DOB:
Nationality:
English
Clubs: Aston Villa
Position: Central midfield, although he can play left back, left side of midfield or defensive midfielder.

Scouting Report
Gareth Barry is an industirous midfielder. His strong left foot means that Barry can provide accurate passes, high quality delivery from set pieces and is a goalscoring threat from long range. He breaks down opposition attacks and distributes the ball to the wide players. He is not renowned for his pace, but does do a lot of running. His versatitly makes him a solid team player.

Barry is also considered to have a good attitude.

One downfall is that perhaps Barry is too orthodox a player, with little in the way of a creative spark. He is unlikely to beat a defender in a one on one situation.

Patrice Evra

Filed under: Man Utd, Premier League

DOB:
Nationality:
French
Clubs: Monaco, Man Utd
Position: Defender, left back

Scouting Report
Patrice Evra is a tough tackling defender. He is aggressive in the tackled. Evra is quick and frequently gets in advanced positions to supply crosses for Man Utd attackers. Although not the tallest of defenders, Evra has a good jump and is strong in the air. Unlike many of the attack-minded players who play in the same position, Evra is a solid tackler that never pulls out of a tackle. He is left footed and his right foot is considerably weaker than his prefered left.

Evra’s desire to get forward means that he doesn’t always pick the right moments to do it. With Cristiano Ronaldo also mainly playing on the same flank, his bad decisions can leave Man Utd exposed to quick counter-attacks, particularly whan an attack breaks down suddenly. He can be agitated wasily when he feels that decisions are going against him.

Anything else?
He is a martial arts enthusiast.

Fernando Torres

DOB:
Nationality:
Spanish
Clubs: Atletico Madrid, Liverpool
Position: Striker

Scouting Report
Fernando Torres is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in world football. Torres is strong on both his right and left foot as well as an aerial threat. Torres relies on blistering acceleration to leave defenders, particuarly centre-backs, in his wake. His pace and intelligent running saw him combine with Steven Gerrard on several ocassions during the 2007/08 Premier League season. Although not bulky, Torres is a strong and powerful player and adapted well to the demands of the Premier League, often seen as being a phyiscally tougher league than it’s Spanish version.

Another major strenght of Torres’ is his mental strenght. Having captained Atletico Madrid from a young age, he has become accustomed to leadership and the responsiblity that comes along with it.

One negative, is his tendency to get isolated. He can become ineffective if not recieving adequate support from either a strike partner or midfielder playing in an advanced position.

Anything else?
Fernando Torres would appear to have a settled private life, with little or no reports of poor off-field behaviour. Torres has a long term girlfriend.
